Utilization of Sandtray in Therapy: The Fundamentals

8 hours I $410

This in-person workshop offers an overview of the utility of sandtray in play therapy, as well as among other populations and settings. This experiential training and approach integrate didactics and live-practice to facilitate a deeper understanding of how this sometimes non-verbal (or pre-verbal) approach lends itself to be effective across cultures; thus, healing can take place at the conscious and unconscious levels.

Participants will partake in a full-day of fun and learning where they will gain the fundamental knowledge in this play/experiential based intervention that promote change and growth. Participants will give and receive feedback while also roleplaying as therapist and client in rotation.

Compassionate Engagement: A Trauma Informed Approach

10 hours | $1,030 | Trauma-Informed Care Certificate

Compassionate Engagement is more than just how we communicate with others. It is to better embed trauma-informed culture that feeds clinical intuition, service delivery, and community engagement, as well as incorporate evidence on self-compassion and its techniques to enhance providers’ resiliency and capacity to best serve their members.

Participants will be immersed in a 3-part experiential training with special attention on cultural humility and sensitivity, as well as Arizona-specific information.

Through integrating trauma-informed care, self-compassion, and systems theories, participants will be equipped to utilize Compassionate Engagement following this training.

• Part 1: Foundations of Compassionate Engagement (6 hours)

• Part 2: Utilization of Compassionate Engagement: A Culturally Relevant Focus (2 hours)

• Part 3: Integration of Compassionate Engagement: A Multi-Level Approach (2 hours)

Emotional Intelligence & Functioning

2 hours | $155

The course offers a foundation of knowledge in emotional intelligence (EI) and its functionality. Understanding the components of EI and using them to enhance one’s insight and awareness in order to improve interpersonal relationships, emotion regulation, and overall well-being.

Integrating Mindfulness and Healthcare: Being Present

2 hours | $155

The Integrating Mindfulness and Healthcare: Being Present course provides foundational knowledge on mindfulness practices and its many uses. Learners will review a broad spectrum of evidence-based literature findings and gain practical skills that are incredibly useful for professional development and clinical application.

LGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces & Treatment

2 hours | $155

The LGBTQIA+ Safe Spaces & Treatment course takes a broad and integrative perspective that reviews the historical aspects of the LGBTQIA+ population in the U.S. and how its history impacted healthcare over time. The focus of this course is to offer insights into the sexual minority population and incorporate cultural considerations into clinical practices and programming to optimizing outcomes.

Trauma & Attachment

2 hours | $155

This course gives attendees a framework to understand trauma and adverse experiences on one’s attachment style. Considerations for parenting and discipline styles, as well as interventions that are focused on fostering healthy attachments and relationships to improve one’s well-being.

Child Centered & Play Therapies

2 hours | $155

This course offers brief descriptions for various child centered approaches to therapy, with emphasis on play therapies. Play can be used with any population and this course affords opportunity to practice some interventions.

Compassionate Engagement- 3 Courses

2 hours | $60

This three part compassion engagement workshop is brought to you by a special collaboration between FSWF and SB&H!
These condensed continuing education workshops are made to increase mental health professionals access to Trauma Informed Care (TIC).

The Training Institute - Southwest Behavioral & Health Pillar Lead

Dr. William Marsh



Dr. Marsh is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Director with Quality Management, overseeing Specialized Training and Population Health Management at Southwest Behavioral & Health Services (SB&H). He also serves as a clinical supervisor for SB&H’s APA-accredited doctoral internship training program and an adjunct professor at Midwestern University and Northern Arizona University.

In his work, Dr. Marsh engages others in dynamic and interactive ways using experiential approaches to therapy and training. He applies knowledge and skills from evidence-based theories and practices to foster learning, growth, and lasting meaningful change. Taking an integrative and affirmative approach to all of his work, he focuses on quality services that are culturally-responsive and trauma-informed.

Dr. Marsh has diverse clinical experiences and training that ranges from inpatient psychiatric and medical hospital care to school-based and outpatient programming. He holds additional specializations in treating ADHD and behavioral concerns, ASD, mood disorders, and chronic medical conditions. He actively works with the LGBTQIA+ community through clinical care and advocacy.

Fulfilling his many passions through the creation of several evidence-based clinical programs, Dr. Marsh continues to oversee program development and implementation at SB&H.

In addition to his clinical experiences and practices, he has been invited as a speaker to multiple agencies, conferences, podcasts, and as a guest-author for a local LGBTQ+ magazine.

Based in Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Marsh is excited to provide educational opportunities through the Dr. Bob Bohanske Center for Clinical Excellence to students and practitioners around the world.
