Paternal Perinatal Mental Health: Working with Dads
Paternal Perinatal Mental Health is an under recognized population
that plays a pivotal role in healthy development, Due to stigma, many
fathers struggle to reach out or accept help, but offering support can
improve lives of fathers and families as a whole. Through examining
perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), we will learn about their
signs and symptoms and how they present differently in males and
females. Diving deeper, we will discuss biases, gender stereotypes, and
role expectations related to the paternal experience and existing
research. The purpose of this presentation is to enhance one’s
recognition and compassionate consideration for those experiencing
PMADs and offer evidence-based practices of how to support those with
PMADs.
